About the event
Every year, monarch butterflies make their way from the Midwest down to a select number of mountain forests in central Mexico, where they overwinter. Come out to Gabower-Reilly to check out the prairie in late summer during what should be the peak of migration for Monarchs through our area. Monarch butterflies will be captured using butterfly nets and tagged as part of the Monarch Watch monitoring program of the University of Kansas. We will talk about the life cycle of the monarch here in Wisconsin, threats to their survival, what you can do to help them, and give you a chance to see them up close and help re-release them to continue their migration. This is a kid-friendly event and feel free to come out at any point in the 2 hour period.
No RSVP needed, but we would be appreciative if you would let us know you plan to come!
