2025 Janesville Swift Night Out #2

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP COUNT CHIMNEY SWIFTS IN JANESVILLE?

The chimney at Washington Elementary School has in the past hosted over a thousand of congregating chimney swifts this time of year, though it did not last year. Bird City Janesville conducts a simultaneous count at various chimneys around the city to get an accurate count of the population on two Sundays during the migration period.  At this time, one of the chimneys on the north side of Mercy Hospital (visible from the north parking lot) appears to be hosting the most in the city, over 600 recently counted.

No RSVP needed, but we would be appreciative if you would let us know you plan to come!  Volunteers from Green Rock Audubon will be present to talk about chimney swifts and binoculars will be available to borrow.  Bring a lawn chair.
